It began with a second-hand 5kg roaster, a railway arch in Bedminster, and two people who'd quit decent jobs to chase a better cup.

Anna had spent six years behind espresso machines across Bristol; Joel came from the trade side, sourcing green coffee. They kept meeting at the same cuppings, kept disagreeing about everything, and eventually decided to disagree under one roof.

For the first two years it was just the two of them: roasting on Tuesdays, delivering by bike on Wednesdays, and slowly convincing a handful of cafés that a small Bristol roaster was worth a punt.

In 2019 we took the unit on Gaol Ferry Steps and opened the café. The roastery moved next door a year later. These days there are nine of us, but the coffee is still roasted in small batches, cupped every morning, and only sent out when it tastes the way it should.

What we care about

Three things we
won't budge on.

01

Long relationships

We buy from the same producers year after year, pay above market, and visit when we can. Good coffee comes from people who are treated fairly.

02

Roasted to taste

Every coffee is profiled by hand and cupped before it ships. Nothing automated decides when a batch is done. People who've tasted thousands do.

03

Genuinely fresh

We roast to order and ship within 48 hours. No warehouse, no months-old stock. The date on the bag is the date we roasted it.
